*hangs head in shame*
Yeah, I didn’t make the deadline on the NaNoWriMo. I’m very bad. Just really bad timing, I suppose. I did try to make it, but it just wasn’t happening. Way too busy with the website project I’m working on. Speaking of exactly that, I did finish that one and will be presenting it this week to the big bosses for approval. So, yeah, there’s my excuse for not finishing up with my entry. I am planning on joining next year, though. At least by then, I already know what to expect and will plan my entry more thoroughly.
On other news, I just got back from Sulangan in Guiuan, Eastern Samar and on our way home I saw this big beautiful rainbow. And for the first time, not only did I see the entire arc, but I also saw the end of the rainbow. Both ends, pa. No pot of gold in sight, unfortunately. It was amazing, though. Wish we could have taken a picture.
there is no future, there is no past
This was fun! I shamelessly copied this meme from a friend on Livejournal: nvr_sk_to_tll
Put your MP3 player on shuffle, and write down the first line of the first twenty songs. Post the poem that results. The first line of the twenty-first is the title.
This is what I came up with:
there is no future, there is no past
where do you go?
i should tell you, i’m disaster.
don’t know much about practicing what i preach
whenever i see someone less fortunate than i
well, i don’t believe in god, but he talks to me all the time
when you ask me who i am
like a breath of midnight air
growin’ up, you don’t see the writing on the wall
there were bells on the hill
if i told you that i lie sometimes
where do i begin?
well, i’m thwarted by a metaphysic puzzle
what will it take to make them quit calling
you make me feel out of my element
sweet revelation got me levitating on the ground
525,600 minutes
the samples won’t delay
the clock says you’re at home
all the time i was loving him, i was secretly wanting you
if the sun went down tomorrow and it never came back
Song of the Week: The Internet is for Porn
This is truly one of the most funniest songs I’ve ever heard. It’s from the Broadway musical called “Avenue Q”, which is a sort of adult version of Sesame Street, with most of the characters being puppets. They even have a version of Bert and Ernie that go by the names of Rod and Nicky.
The musical is about Princeton, who is kinda down on his luck and can only afford an apartment in Avenue Q.
This song made me laugh so hard, the first time I heard it. I’m only thankful that the Boss was in a meeting and wasn’t there when I burst into laughter. One of my co-workers, was present at the time and she kept giving me weird looks. I was on headphones, so she couldn’t hear the music. Probably thought I’ve gone crazy hehehe . . . I couldn’t help it. It’s just that funny. Anyway, the vid for your pleasure (no pun intended hehehe):

after many stops and starts
. . . I’ve finally decided on an actual plot to my NaNoWriMo entry:
The sudden uprising had torn apart the realm and left the heirs to the throne running for their lives. Taken by surprise, Alexei and her sisters, Sofia and Eve with their long-time friend, Leander flees the capital and starts a journey that would take them, with the help of some new friends made along the way, back to the beginning.
Okay, so it’s not actually a plot-plot and more of an abstract. And it starts en media res, which is actually easier for me and gets me in the zone faster. It’s mostly in a fantasy setting (swords and magic) but I think there’ll be a part of it that’s a little sci-fi. It’s kinda like a homage to the Final Fantasy games, you know with the crystals and stuff. And the monsters. And a prophesy to boot.
Not yet sure, if it’s gonna be all dark. It’s certainly starting out that way, but who knows? I’m just basically doing this on a wing and a prayer and hoping I even finish at least half of it. It’s a first draft, so not overly concerned with quality, but at least I’m writing again. Yes, I’m practically dragging my muse kicking and screaming from her overdue vacation and it’s like squeezing blood from a stone to just get the words out and not let it sound like a programming manual at times, but I must be crazy because I kinda like the adrenaline rush of it all.
I hadn’t really had much time to devote to it this past week. Integrating WordPress into the website I’m working on was giving me a headache, that I was starting to see stars in the shape of blocks of PHP code meshed with CSS and HTML. Still, win or lose this year, I’ll definitely be more ready for next year’s NaNoWriMo
what is success to you?
“What is success? To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; that is to have succeeded.”
– Ralph Waldo Emerson
Mr. Emerson must have been a very wise man, indeed. It’s something to think about, doncha think? So, what does success mean to you?
and so it begins
I’ve officially started my entry to NaNoWriMo. Admittedly, I’ve only got about 83 words so far. Mostly because I kept hitting the backspace key ever so often. Then again, I’m still feeling the effects of last night’s outing with my cousins (Thanks to my uncle who played designated driver. I really need to renew my license), so that’s probably one of the reasons for the slow start.
In other news, I haven’t got to the cemetery yet to visit my grandparents (both sides except for my paternal grandmother who is fortunately still here with us. Hi, Lola!) and my aunt’s graves. The way things are going today, I’ll probably end up going tomorrow morning.
