Just Me

2 days to go . . .

Posted in Weblogs by phoenyx57 on October 29, 2008

. . . and I’m literally scrambling for a plot that I can use (and not get bored with) for NaNoWriMo. I’ll probably be sticking with either sci-fi or fantasy or a little bit of both. Those genres give me a lot of control (and we all know how nerds can be such control freaks sometimes) over my world-building. What I need is a story. Or a character.

Hmmm . . . screw it! I’m just gonna wing it this Saturday and see where it all goes.  I once read in a blog about freelancing and one of the tips that the author gave was: “Faking it until you’re not faking it anymore.” I think that would be quite appropriate for this as well.

finally entered NaNoWriMo

Posted in Weblogs by phoenyx57 on October 28, 2008

It’s my very first ever and I’m nervous as all hell. Good thing participants are not expected to excel at writing or plot development. The goal is to simply write a novel with a minimum of 50,000 words from the first of November to midnight of November 30. For a first-timer, that looks like a very ominous number indeed.  At the moment, I’ve only the barest hint of a plot going inside my head and a fuzzy idea on characters. The entire thing is scary, but I have to admit, I can’t wait for November 1.

Keyboards at the ready!

. . . and highly amusing.

For someone who isn’t very religious, I sure find myself praying a lot since I entered my current work. So, weird and funny.

Songs of the Week: Lilith Fair ‘97 songs

Posted in Music, Song of the Week by phoenyx57 on October 18, 2008

Yes, another multi-vid post. I couldn’t make up my mind again, sue me, heh . . .

The vids are selected songs from the 1997 Lilith Fair concert. First up, is “Water is Wide” sung by the Indigo Girls, Jewel and Sarah Mclachlan. Unfortunately, the volume level is a bit low, so you’ll have to crank up your speakers in order to hear it. Don’t worry, it’s totally worth it.

Next up, is the Indigo Girls, this time with “Shame On You” from their album “Shaming of the Sun”, the very first album I bought of them:

Another Indigo Girls performance. It’s “Closer to Fine” with a little help from the other Lilith Fair participants:

And the finale of the concert: “Big Yellow Taxi”:

Here I was, happily designing a website using my favorite browser Firefox and everything was looking just fab. I was getting pretty smug about it too. Completely table-less, clean, minimalistic design with a three column layout . . . then I suddenly realized who the audience was going to be. These were people who most likely were going to use a browser that was readily available. A browser that I hate with a passion. A browser I only use once and that’s to download another. A browser called Internet Explorer. Nyech!!

Fortunately, I only had to make some small adjustments and it’s all cool now. Sorta. Now, if only I could figure out how to make them all equal-height columns . . .

this about sums up my day . . .

I got this from an email:

“Most of us are motivated by a keen desire for praise, and the more one succeeds, the he or she is inspired by glory. But those who are truly wise have no need of praise or glory, except as it eases the way to action by virtue of the greater trust it procures them.”

How apt :D

Song(s) of the Week #2

Posted in Weblogs by phoenyx57 on October 12, 2008

This is a bit late in posting, but I couldn’t seem to embed a video anymore. Fortunately, the feature seems to be back, so here we are.

There’s actually two songs/vids of the week, since I couldn’t make up my mind. First up, is an awesome cover of a Jackson 5 original called “I want You Back” by KT Tunstall and last but definitely not least is the acoustic version of Idina Menzel’s “I Stand”. Enjoy!!

i’ll take the beach

Posted in Weblogs by phoenyx57 on October 9, 2008

I was just reading my previous post and it occured to me that with the exception of being outside of the office and/or at home, that hot and humid day at the beach might probably be the last time I feel hot and humid. Apparently, I’m now suppose to freeze my butt off from 8 to 5 every working day. Dayum! Tutukan ba naman hit aircon. Duha pa gud. LOL. It’s cool (no pun intended), though. My co-workers seem like a good bunch and they’ve made me feel welcome, so that’s okay.

life’s a beach

Posted in Weblogs by phoenyx57 on October 6, 2008

Okay, I’m not sure what I was expecting on my first day of work, but it most certainly wasn’t me spending time on the beach. Albeit a very hot and humid time on the beach. I gotta admit, it was a bit surreal, but not unpleasant. At least I got some food out of it, eh?
