the “Singing Priests”
Attended a fund-raising concert last night, called “Momentz”. It was for the renovation of the Sacred Heart Seminary in our hometown. I can’t believe the amount of damage there was to those old buildings. When my cousin was still studying there (he studied , we’d use to visit him during Sundays, which was a visitation day, it wasn’t as bad. Now the termites have dug holes in the walls and ceilings, plus there are leaks on the roof.
Anyway, the artists who performed where 11 priests from different parts of our island province and most if not all, are alums of the school. They were pretty good, too, though not as good as another hometown singing group, the “Rah-Rah Rousers”. The best part, at least for me was their medley called “The Prodigal” where they mixed up some well-known songs to match the story of the prodigal. Way cool

digital photography
That’s my latest hobby. I’m discovering the beauty of digital photgraphy, especially macro photography. Awesome. I also like taking black and white pictures for the classic look. Unfortunately, I’m still a beginner, but you gotta start somewhere, right?
Villas Mini-Family Reunion
God, we’re a big family, aren’t we? This is but a small portion of the clan on my maternal grandmother’s side. The tiny little lady (wearing white) sitting down in the middle, is our family matriarch and my grand-aunt, Lola Agre (short for Agripina). She was specially close to my grandmother, who died when she was just 36. Mama says that Lola Coying (my lola’s full name was Socorro), my grandma, was also a very tiny lady.
Makes me wonder, how we all got to be so big boned hehehe . . .
The folks in this photo are the descendants of Lola Agre and her sisters, Lola Justina and my lola. Most of them are currently on vacation from the US and Manila and thought a reunion would be a great idea for the younger generation to bond and the older generation to reminisce about the olden days
.
By the way, posing for this pic, was a bit weird experience for me. See, geneaology being a hobby of mine, I’ve been privy to some pics exactly like this one, only difference was it was in black and white and the kids sitting on the floor were my mom, her sisters and cousins. And look at them now. They’re the ones sitting on the chairs. To say, it was a bit freaky, would be an understatement.

Thirteen Things I love about being Pinoy
Found this list some time ago. There are about a 100, but I chose only 13. It's fun, and really quite true in most cases 1. Merienda. Where else but in the Philippines is it normal to eat five times a day? 2. Kuwan, ano. At a loss for words? Try these and marvel at how Pinoys understand exactly what you want. 3. Pinoy humour and irreverence. If you're api (underdog) and you know it, crack a joke. Nothing personal, really. 4. Po, opo, mano po. Speech suffixes that define courtesy, deference, filial respect–a balm to the spirit in these aggressive times. 5. Pasalubong. Our way of sharing the vicarious thrills and delights of a trip, and a wonderful excuse to shop without the customary guilt. 6. Beaches! With 7000 plus islands, we have miles and miles of shoreline piled high with fine white sand, lapped by warm waters, and nibbled by exotic tropical fish. From the stormy seas of Batanes to the emerald isles of Palawan–over here, life is truly a beach. 7. Bayanihan. Yes, the internationally-renowned dance company, but also this habit of pitching in still common in small communities. Just have that cold beer and some pulutan ready for the troops. 8. Bagoong. Darkly mysterious, this smelly fish or shrimp paste typifies the underlying theme of most ethnic foods: disgustingly unhygienic, unbearably stinky and simply irresistible. 9. Fiesta. Eat, drink and be merry, for tomorrow is just another day, shrugs the poor man who, once a year, honors a patron saint with this sumptuous, no-holds-barred spread. It's a Pinoy celebration at its pious and riotous best. 10. Jeepneys. Colorful, fast, reckless, a vehicle of postwar Pinoy ingenuity, this Everyman's communal cadillac makes for a cheap, interesting ride. If the driver's a daredevil (as they usually are), hang on to your seat. 11. Pinoy hospitality. Just about everyone gets a hearty "Kain tayo!" invitation to break bread with whoever has food to share, no matter how skimpy or austere it is. 12. Pakikisama. It's what makes people stay longer at parties, have another drink, join pals in sickness and health. You can get dead drunk and still make it home. 13. Sunday family gatherings. Or, close family ties that never get severed. You don't have to win the lotto or be a president to have 10,000 relatives. Everyone's family tree extends all over the archipelago, and it's at its best in times of crisis; notice how food, hostesses, money, and moral support materializes during a wake? 1. Kelly |

da vinci movie banned?
Are they f***ing kidding me? Secretary whats-his-name wants the movie banned from showing here in the Philippines. Tsk,tsk. He really should read Order of the Phoenix and learn from Umbridge's mistake
. That statement just assured that the most Filipinos with a working vcr or dvd player are gonna be hunting for a copy of the movie hehehe . . .
What really pissed me off was when he said that he was afraid that it might change the youth's faith. Umm, hello? . . . if you've got strong faith in the Church, it doesn't matter what you see, read, or hear . . . you'll always have faith. Kaya nga it's called faith, eh. Geez!
Why the strong fear of the book or the movie? When I read it, I thought it was such a wonderful, thrilling ride. A great what-if situation. After all, none of us really know what happened in the past. It didn't change my faith, at all.
Enough of that . . . I'll be posting my T13 a little later.
